Foundation Surgical Hospital Affiliates was formed in 2008 from the success of the outpatient surgery company, Foundation Surgery Affiliates. Thomas A. Michaud, founder of both entities, created the Foundation Surgical Hospital company to focus on the development and management of surgical hospitals and the inclusion of ancillary service lines. These additional service lines, such as hyperbarics, sleep labs, intraoperative monitoring and robotic surgery, truly make the Foundation specialty hospital environment unique.

 

Meet our leadership team:

 

Thomas A. Michaud, Chief Executive Officer
After graduating from Boston College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, Mr. Michaud earned his CPA certificate while serving as a staff accountant with the international accounting firm, Ernst & Young. Other experience includes Partnership in a local CPA firm, acting as Chief Operating Officer of a regional wholesale company, along with holding the upper management positions of Manager of Management Information Systems and Manager of Materials at an aerospace company. Prior to founding Foundation Surgery Affiliates in January 1996, Mr. Michaud held the positions of Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of a regional surgery center management company. Mr. Michaud's responsibilities include marketing the Foundation program to potential surgeon partners, developing new geographic and product markets for the company, along with medium and long term corporate planning and strategy.

 

 

Robert M. Byers, President

Robert M. Byers joined Foundation in February, 2001 and currently serves as President of Foundation Surgical Hospital Affilates, Inc. Prior to joining Foundation, Mr. Byers served as President of an Oklahoma City CPA firm and as Chief Financial Officer of a mortgage company utilizing the services of Wall Street financial firms. He has been a licensed Certified Public Accountant for over 40 years. Mr. Byers received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from the University of Oklahoma in Norman and earned his Certified Public Accountant certificate while serving with the international firm of Ernst & Ernst. Mr. Byers is active in the Oklahoma City community, most recently serving on the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon as Treasurer.

 

 

 

 

 

Bradford N. Ottwell, CPA, Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Ottwell joined the Foundation executive leadership team in April, 2009 as the Chief Financial Officer with over 25 years of extensive financial, operational and managerial healthcare experience. Previously, Mr. Ottwell served as the CFO for Surgical Synergies, Inc., a Missouri based healthcare management company specializing in the management of ambulatory surgery centers and surgical hospitals. Additionally, Mr. Ottwell has previously directed Vice President of Finance, Vice President of Operations, and Controller responsibilities for medical and surgical hospital systems, healthcare staffing and homecare service organizations. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Missouri, he joined the international accounting firm of Price Waterhouse LLP in St Louis, Missouri, and shortly thereafter achieved certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Mr. Ottwell’s responsibilities include revenue cycle management, budgeting and analysis, proforma evaluation, strategic planning, merger evaluation, and financial growth modeling.
